Mastodon doesn’t have a “watch post” feature, but imagine another #ActivityPub server such as #wordpress were to implement it…

Which interaction would you prefer / make most sense to trigger a watch?

I think I heard that @zap implements a Watch feature (not sure though).

In any case I think it is important to implement this in a way that is most likely to become standards-compliant and adopted across the board. I would recommend also posting on #SocialHub community and propose work in direction of a #Fediverse Enhancement Proposal.

CC @weex this is something that's interesting for #Ecko maybe? I discussed the feature before, but can't find it anymore.. sunk into history.

@humanetech @MediaFormat @zap @weex@mstdn.social We have a related issue and some work has been done on it but as there are many other problems to solve it needs a champion (i.e. Ecko user or admin) to help drive it to completion. github.com/magicstone-dev/ecko

@weex@c4.social @humanetech @zap @weex@mstdn.social agreed, it would be great to see a FEP for this. @grishka also mentioned implementing a version of this in #smithereen

Follow{Note} would make sense if you wish to just start receiving replies without any side effects. Likes, boosts, and replies have a side effect of also registering you as watching this post.

In Smithereen it works such that all new replies and likes are forwarded to everyone else who has replied or liked. I don't support doing boosts, I only accept and display them and do so for compatibility with Mastodon.
