One of the things I love about buying used #books over the internet is the assortment of notes and cards that are sometimes included.
This one feels like one of those little objects that could be the center of its own story.
Maintainers SHOULD close user issues that are left open without action for an uncomfortable period of time. (2.4.19)
Buried in the Collective Code Construction Contract is the clause above. I'm not sure what an uncomfortable period of time is, but early on it's probably not long, like a month or two.
Early on we tried to populate the issue trackers with what we thought were valid problems, but today we have something better. Problems being raised by our community of user-admins!
It's truly awesome to see this feedback loop in action. We've already got some good problems to solve, like being able to handle Markdown and LaTeX and working better with Debian packaging.

Docker/Ruby guru wanted!😍
We use docker-compose for deployment of Ecko at c4.social but for a couple of weeks haven't been able to build a docker image that would pass health check. What's strange is that it seems to be due to a change in one of our docker build dependencies with the result that bundle can't be found! Even build of earlier code fail. 😭
If you're excited by FOSS and container builds and want to take a crack at something that has flummoxed the few of us in Magic Stone, or if you have a radically better way to run this Mastodon fork, the issue is here for your input https://github.com/magicstone-dev/ecko/issues/370 🙏
Really strange error running Ecko in docker. No change in the Dockerfile or Gemfile.lock but bundler's complaining that sidekiq isn't installed.
Any docker geniuses out there?
You want themes? We got themes. 😂
Having trouble currently with the latest Ecko docker builds but this is on https://ecko.magicstone.dev which is managed via YunoHost.
We've just created a new code repository for Ecko plugins at https://github.com/magicstone-dev/ecko-plugins
If you have any issues implementing your own plugin for Ecko or adapting an existing plugin to your codebase please post them there.
🎉 Happy New Year!! 🎆
A new version of Ecko has just been released on YunoHost. Version 2021-12-27~ynh1 integrates donations through Stripe, adds five new themes, and fixes some issues with import/export of blocklists.
Ecko is Magic Stone's community-driven fork of Mastodon. You can install it via YunoHost at https://install-app.yunohost.org/?app=ecko, via docker-compose or from source at our repo linked below.
⚠️ The Magic Stone community follows the Collective Code Construction Contract. Please post any bug reports or feature requests in the form of a problem statement at https://github.com/magicstone-dev/ecko/issues
Big thanks to @jorge and @PaulaToThePeople for great feedback and support for Ecko!
A new version of Acropolis was just released for YunoHost. 🎉
#Acropolis is Magic Stone's fork of #diaspora*, one of the first federated apps ever made which is built around "aspects" or circles of people that you want to share with. Sign up at https://dogieda.org if you want to try it.
Magic Stone is a community that develops technology to support members of the community. We are experimenting with a new development model and welcome contributions of all kinds including advice, code, documentation, bug reports and feature requests. Learn more at https://magicstone.dev
🛠️ If administration is your thing, #YunoHost is the easiest way. Version 2021.12.27~ynh1 makes it possible to create admin accounts from command line and changes the nodeinfo software name so that Acropolis nodes can now be seen at https://acropolis.fediverse.observer/list
⚠️ Please report issues at https://github.com/YunoHost-Apps/acropolis_ynh
Nibö is a Latin American platform about science and technology, including social responsibility and inclusivity.
They've set up their own Mastodon instance with a main account at:

#JoinFediverseWiki is almost ready for it's official launch in 8 days.
Right now I'm gathering feedback from people who are not deep into the Fediverse yet.
What you can do to help:
* #boost this post.
* show the wiki to your non-fedizen friends and forward me their feedback.
* of course you can give me feedback yourself even if you're a Fediverse veteran.
* help edit the wiki. For now I wrote almost everything myself.
Happy holidays everybody. 🎉
Good question about our choice of Acropolis and diaspora* vs. working on ActivityPub ... https://lemmy.ml/post/125390/comment/100856
Starting today you can support your favorite instance of #Ecko by donating with your credit card through Stripe. 💳
Once you donate you get a badge that appears on your profile and on your toots (when viewed locally). This was accomplished through a plugin called Sponsors that helps to solve two problems.
🔌 First is to prove out the plugin facility that we added recently to Ecko. We're building plugins around Ruby gems so that these may be reused by many other projects on the fediverse including Magic Stone's fork of diaspora* called #Acropolis.
🤑 Second is the money problem. The fedi doesn't do venture capital, doesn't have unicorns and doesn't data harvest to pay for massive server farms. Instead communities are often run near the financial edge simply because it's hard to pool resources. By making it easy to donate and show support, we hope the Sponsors plugin helps even the playing field so the fediverse can shine.
🗿 If you'd like to try this out and support the Magic Stone community, you can sign up at https://c4.social and click the donate link in the lower right.

Acropolis is now available for installation via YunoHost. 🎉
This is Magic Stone's fork of diaspora*, one of the first federated apps ever made, and one that is more focused on "aspects" or circles of people that you want to share with. Instead of following, you share with people. An auto-share back mechanic helps create connections.
Acropolis supports post formatting, threaded comments, and posts are bigger so photos are easier to see without clicking in. Sign up at https://dogieda.org if you want to try it.
🛠️ If administration is your thing, YunoHost is the easiest way. Version 2021.12.02~ynh1 still requires initial account creation via web interface and promotion to admin via command line but in the near future, admin account creation will be more seamless.

Ever play a game where you take a wrong turn 🐉 and it's been a long time since a checkpoint so you have to go back and play a lot to get another crack at it? 🤦♂️
Software development doesn't have to be like that. At all.
We can make branches and forks for free and switch from one to another for almost nothing. We can revert changes and roll back services and pretend that never happened... and sometimes we're make progress. Like exponential progress.
Most people just want to use a thing and move on, but if you're curious and like to tinker, don't let project ownership get in the way.
#Copyleft = universal access 🔓 unlimited lives 👩 and checkpoints. 💾
The only question is, where do you want to play?

A lot of discussion around the #log4j situation is attempting to blame someone, maintainer, dev or big tech but don't worry #FOSS isn't broken. It's working fine for so many. Still, we should seize this opportunity to collect and discuss problems first, letting solutions come as they will.
To that end, I've created a tracker to help catalog and prove out the issues that affect free/libre open source software. https://github.com/magicstone-dev/foss-problems
All contributions welcome. Let's scope out the problems in this beautiful, massively parallel, distributed, creative, frustrating but fascinating FOSS world!
